Somin Sai are unique festivals for good harvest in Tohoku region.
Most famous one is held on February at Kokusekiji-Temple in Oshu,Iwate Prefecture.
This is derived from old folk tale about God called Mutoh.(Susanoo)
There were brothers.
Older brother,Sominshourai,was poor and the other,Kotan,was very wealthy.
When Mutoh was traveling to get married,he asked for a night's lodging at Kotan's house.
Kotan refused his proposal.
Mutoh visited Sominshourai's house and was welcomed with pleasure.
A few years later,married Mutoh visited Somin's house again and said
"I want to give back to you.Do you have any family in your house?"
Sominshourai said
"I have my wife and daughter here"
"Okay,put a Chinowa(cogon grass ring) on your family member's body".
Mutoh said.
That night,people except Sominshourai's were ruined.
Mutoh said
"I am Susanoo. Descendants of Sominshourai will be protected in many ways forever"

Somin festival 2018 movie.
Men who participate in the festival,are prohibited from eating meat,fish and garlicky foods for a week before the event.
Sominshourai story is not only in Tohoku region.
Mie prefecture's Sominshourai is similar to Tohoku's.
In Mie prefecture,people put a special Shimenawa-Kazari ornament which is written that "Sominshourai's descendant".
People put this outside of front door all year long.
In other prefectures,Shimenawa-Kazari is only for New Year
and there is no words about Sominshourai.
