Shinto is always with Japanese mythology Kojiki.
It is not only the oldest historical book of Japan or Japanese myth
but also a genesis and important prophecy book.
It was given from God's world by spiritual power.
It is said that Ono Yasumaro a nobleman,bureaucrat and chronicler, edited Kojiki in 712,
but Kojiki's story was perceived by some unknown super strong spiritual mediums at the time.
There were so many oral tradition,old worship place for gods and prohibited place to enter since ancient times.
Yasumaro was just a editor of these stories.
Kojiki was dedicated to the Emperor at that time.
There is no the original books now, but there are some manuscript books.
Kojiki is equivalent to The old testament
and Nihon-Shoki(720) is equal to New testament.
Kojiki's story is a truth of genesis of the Universe and the Earth and
it represents an original history of human beings.As a prophetic statement.
I mean people have been repeating and tracing similar or the same story of myth.

There is nothing.Even God.
Just a chaos.
After a long long time,sky/heaven and land split up suddenly.
Takamimusubi and Kamimusubi appeared in the sky in order
and disappeared like melting into the sky.
At that time,land was unstable like a oil on water or a floating jelly fish
and nobody can't live on it.
Other many gods appeared and the sky was getting noisy.
Every kinds of division was developed.
World of the sky/heaven was called Tamagahara
World of the land was called Ashiwara no Nakatsukuni
and World of death was called Yomi no Kuni.
Note
World of the Land is the Earth.
God is treated as a sacred pillar in Japan.
Pillar worship was world common religion in ancient time.
Izanagi(man) and Izanami(woman) appeared.
They were ordered to make a stable land with a long halberd sword called Amenonuboko.
They ran down to a bridge between the sky and the Earth
to create hard land.
The bridge is called Amenoukihashi.

Izanagi said
"You are really beautiful woman."
They became the first couple in the world.

but later, it turned into Ebisu,the god of wealth
and came back to the land.
It is related to a flotsam worship.(Flotsam is god)
Hiruko also represents an unstable/floating continent = Mu/The lost continent
They were ordered to make a stable land with a long halberd sword called Amenonuboko.
They ran down to a bridge between the sky and the Earth
to create hard land.
The bridge is called Amenoukihashi.
Note
Sword means male genitalia too.
"Izana-u" means invite,ask,tempt or entice in Japanese language.
Creation of Japan's islands is known as Kuniumi story.
After they mixed sea water,some water drops from the sword turned into
the first island Onogoro-shima.(Current Hyogo prefecture)
Izanagi and Izanami landed in the island.
Then,they built one big pillar and a palace.
Izanagi said,
"How is your body formed? I have an extra part."
Izanami said,"I have a lacked part."
Izanagi said again,
"We both are not perfect each other.
Let's make more islands in close cooperation."
Izanami nodded in agreement.
They walked around the big pillar to meet again.

Their first child Hiruko was not good.
Izanagi and Izanami exiled Hiruko on a boat made of reed.
Next child was not good too.

Kojiki is very complicated story because many different histories and "dimensions" are mixed and concentrated.
Izanagi and Izanami consulted with gods of the Universe.
"Why can't we have a sound child?"
Gods of the Universe answered that
"The first ceremony was not good.Woman said something to man fist.
Man should say words to woman before woman do it.Try it again."
Izanagi and Izanami redo.
After that,they could have many beautiful 8 big islands and 6 small islands.
Then,they also created many gods.
God of the house,sea,water,river,wind,tree,mountain,field
ship,food...and so on.
But Izanami had a big injury when she gave birth to god of fire Kagutsuchi.
She was dying but still gods of clay soil and mine were created from her vomit and excrement.

Fire = Light = The Sun = Inner God = Gratitude
Finally,Izanami passed away in spite of husband's treatment.
God of spring was born from husband's tears.
Izanagi killed Kagutsuchi with a sword because he felt strong angry.
Many gods about adjustment of fire were born from Kagutsuchi's dead body and blood.
After wife's death,Izanagi went to the world of death,called Yomi no kuni.
He wanted to take her back from there somehow.
He knocked on the door of death world's palace.
"My darling,we haven't made enough islands yet.
Please come back again."
Izanami said,
"It is too late.I am already resident in Yomi,
because I ate some foods of the world of death.
But I want to go back with you.I will consult with the God of Yomi.
Please wait for a while.Never open the door.I don't want you to see my appearance."
Although Izanagi had been waiting there,she didn't come back.
He burned teeth of comb as a candle and went into the palace at last.
"Where are you?"
"Where are you?"
It was terrible thing to him.
Izanami's body was already rotten and there were many maggots on her body.
Furthermore,there were eight kinds of lightning gods around her body.
Seeing her body,Izanami ran away with horror.
"You broke our promise.You shamed me!!"
She screamed.
She screamed.
Izanami was mad at him and let ugly woman chase Izanagi.
Ugly woman almost caught up with him.
Izanagi threw hair strap of vine at ugly woman.
The vine changed into wild grapes.
"Looks so delicious!"Ugly woman started to eat grapes.
He was able to ran away while she was eating.
But she started to chase him again.
Izanagi threw teeth of a comb at her.
These changed into bamboo shoots.
"Looks good!" She said.
Izanagi could ran away while she was eating.
But now,8 kinds of gods of thunder and over 1,500 monsters started to chase Izanagi.
Izanagi ran while swinging a sword on his back side.
At last,Izanagi reached to the exit of the world of the death.
He threw three peaches at them.

They were surprised and fled.

Although Izanagi rid of scary monsters,Izanami came after by herself.
Izanagi blocked the slope road with a huge rock and said
"Let's break up.It's over"
Izanami said
"My darling,if you do such a thing I will kill 1,000 people in your world a day."
Izanagi said
"My sweet heart,If you so I will many maternity rooms to let people born 1,500 babies a day."
Their divorce was finalized.
Note
There is no story about the later of this couple.
But there is a legend that a mystery princess called Kukuri-Hime made them peace when they were fighting at the exit of death world.
She just said to them like this.
"Your future children are waiting"
After that, Izanagi returned to this world.
It was dawn.
He had to wash his whole-body because the death world was dirty.
He washed his body in the pond.

This sacred pond is called Misogi-Ike in Miyazaki prefecture.
Misogi means purification with water.It is Shinto's important concept.
Japanese people use water more than other people
because we are very sensitive to uncleanness.
(Uncleanness is called Kegare)
Also,Japanese are always cleaning.
In Izanagi's purifying action,
12 gods were created from his removed clothing,cane,accessories and so on.
Countless other gods were also made by his dirt,stain and spray of water.
After that,three important gods were born with washing water.
When Izanagi washed his left eye,Amaterasu-Ohomikami was created.
And Tsukuyomi from his right eye.
Last,Susanoo from his nose.

Birth of gods is called Kamiumu story.
Amaterasu-Ohomikami is Japanese chief God as the Sun Goddess.
She is worshiped at Naiku of Grand shrine of ISE.
Grand shrine of ISE is the most important shrine in Japan.
Tsukuyomi is God of the moon and night.(Yomi = World of Dead people)
Susanoo is God of the sea and land.(The Earth)
It is said that description about Tsukuyomi is too few in myth,
but it is not a mystery.
Tsukuyomi and Susanoo is the same god like a two-faced coin.
He can visit and move freely in both worlds.(This world and the world of death)
If he stays in this world,he is called Susanoo.
If he stays in death world,he is called Tsukuyomi.
His name is changed depends on his place.
